Dr. Moinuddin Aqeel
This Book Collection-"Aqeel Collection"-was made possible by receiving the enormous personal library of Dr. Moinuddin Aqeel, who has been the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urdu at University of Karachi and Dean, Faculty of Languages and Literature at International Islamic University, Islamabad. (Career and achievements of Dr. Aqeel are here →). As an Urdu language collection at a single institution (in addition to Urdu books, this collection has so many books in English, Persian, Arabic and in a few other eastern and western languages as well), this is only the second largest to the British Library, and the total number of literature (including newspapers and pamphlets) exceeds 26,000 (Please refer to Dr. Aqeel's article for details on the Aqeel Collection).

Aqeel Collection database is a bibliographic information database, but compared to other bibliographic information database such as OPAC, there are following three unique characteristics. (1) To create a database that is academically valuable, annotations are added to precious literatures. (2) It includes Dr. Aqeel's own data (his own classification and image data for inserted documents). (3) As a tool to support analysis of "publications and transmission of Islamic books in the South Asian languages", it has "Time-Map Search" function.

With these characteristics, Aqeel Collection database has a slightly different method for using from regular bibliographic database. Please see the "how to use the database" page for details.
