Guidance on Student Insurance for International Students (mandatory)

Summary
  1. All the international students must take out two student insurances called Gakkensai and Gakubai.
  2. Type A of Gakkensai is suitable for ASAFAS students.
  3. Gakkensai also provides a useful travel insurance called Futai-Kaigaku for ASAFAS students.
    Kyoto University requires all the international students to take out the following two student insurances: Gakkensai and Gakubai. Gakkensai (Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research) provides benefits in the event that you suffer accidental injury during regular curricula activities, university events, extracurricular activities, or while commuting to the university. Gakubai (Personal Liability Insurance for Studetns) provides wide variety coverage for any possible accidents during your university life.
    Gakkensai also provides a travel insurance called Futai-Kaigaku which covers an unlimitedly medical and rescuer’s expenses. This insurance is useful for ASAFAS students who are required to take out this kind of travel insurance during their field trip.

1) How to take out Gakkensai
For new students: Please find the brochure in the admission procedure documents, and take out Type A (insurance premium for 5 years: 4,050 yen).
For 2nd to 5th year students: Please contact/go to Koseika (Welfare Section, Welfare Division, Education Promotion and Student Support Department) at Yoshida Main Campus, Kyoto University, and take out Type A (insurance premium for 5 years: 4,050 yen).
